The Element of Style

Everyone should read The Element of Style, which offers guidelines for American English writing. In 2011, Time magazine named it as one of the top 100 best and most influential books written in English since 1923.

Here’s one of my favorite pointers:

“A sentence should contain no unnecessary words, a paragraph no unnecessary sentences, for the same reason that a drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts.”

Not a bad principle in which to live by either.
