I admittedly try to get all my political news from shows like The Daily Show and Colbert Report. I also like to keep up with what happens on the world wide web with Tosh 2.0. Then I round things out with entertainment news from The Soup.
I don’t get to watch these shows often, but when I do I learn a lot. Really. The reason fake news is better and more informative than real news is that these comedians are also intellectuals. Because you have to know everything about a topic before you can satirize it, comedians have to conjure unique observations and evoke profound insights in their skits (otherwise, you have Jay Leno). In other words, they actually think and analyze rather than just report. (Why haven’t they switched to robots to report the nightly news?)
Take Rob Delaney’s “op-ed” on the Ashton Kutcher fallout from his “racist” ad. It’s the best thing I’ve read all week.
