Dreier Auction brought huge prices

This is something that doesn’t happen often: Two memorabilia auction houses going head-to-head on the same weekend (in the same town, too). Profiles in History is having had the Dreier auction today and will have the Animation Auction tomorrow, while Premiere Props has the Hollywood Movie Costume auction all weekend.

Premiere Props has claimed that their auction is “the biggest costume auction in decades.” They boast 2,383 lots. That is a massive collection. Combine that with 400 lots from the Dreier and over 900 for Animation — not to mention an additional 1,200 for Profiles’s Hollywood Auction on July 30-31 — these next few days will offer a gluttony of memorabilia for sale.

How will that affect prices? Well, the Dreier sale’s preliminary hammer total was $2.4M, with about 85% sell rate and over $7,000 per lot sold.

I will get Premiere Props’s numbers once they are available.
