People who were looking forward to the Titanic props in Profiles in History’s Hollywood Auction on July 30-31 will be out of luck this time. Eighteen of the 21 Titanic lots in the auction have been withdrawn. Fox Studios has laid claims to the items and the consignor took possession back yesterday, presumably to return to Fox. The items originally came from special effects supervisor for the film, Donald Pennington. The only remain lots are the fireplace (lot 846), Frances Fischer’s life vest (lot 865) and the A-H 3rd class passenger list (lot 866) — these were not Pennington’s.
I thought these items were going to do very well. Too bad we will never know.
