The above is an unrestored 1927 Mercedes-Benz Kompressor ‘S’ Type. Painted battleship gray and retaining its original blue leather upholstery in its entirety, this is the “Lost Mercedes” that was recently discovered in the same garage that it was parked in since the 1930s and laid up since the 1950s. Its logbook indicates that there was only one owner since it was first registered in 1928. How something like this could be forgotten for 60 years amazes me.
Although I can appreciate the beauty of a well-crafted automobile, I have never thought of myself as a motorhead. Not even being at Pebble Beach Motor Week last year converted me. However, this Lost Mercedes could do it. The car will be auctioned off at Bonhams Goodwood Revival sale on Saturday, September 15, 2012. It is expected to sell for more than £1.5m.
